RECAP:
For those of you that attended the CHS Alumni Game on Thanksgiving,
you already know. But I would like to let others who could not make it in
on the news... IT WAS GREAT. I think there were 50-60 people at the
field (not counting the current CHS Ultimate team). Some of the alumni
from the classes of the '70s brought their almost and high schoolers.
Jonny Hines (class of '70) came and said a few words about how it all
started (I think he had talked with Joel Silver and coordinated what they
wanted to say). Joe Barbanel, Ed Summers, Geoff West and Sholom
(Eric) Simon also spoke giving the pre-game event a truly emotional
feel.

Heidi Hellring (Buzzy's sister) also showed up wearing Buzzy's jacket
and carrying his Frisbee. She brought her husband and two children
too. It was great meeting her, and I think a lot of the alumni spent time
talking with her and really appreciated her being there. Larry Schindel
took a lot of photos.

As many of you know, the school administration has never supported
or been involved with CHS Ultimate. Well, that changed a little this
year. The CHS Head Librarian was so interested in what was
happening when I spoke with him before the event, that he showed up
Thursday night and accepted the Ultimate History Book that I presented
to the school for the library/archive. I also raffled off a book which one of
the current players won.

And BTW, the class of 2006 beat the alumni 24-22.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. As usual (I'm told), the game
went over 2 hours. I was very impressed with how much intensity was
displayed while playing at night, under semi-lit conditions, with a
wind-chill factor probably below 10 degrees, on a parking lot
(oops, sorry, I mean the field).

Friday we had a brunch / get together at the Joy Luck Chinese
restaurant in West Orange. About 30 people came including in addition
to the names I already mentioned Andy Cummis, John Hadley, Dave
Paris and Jan Russak, and we showed DVDs letting the kids see their
parents play and talk about Ultimate. Larry and Paul Schindel, their
kids, and Geoff West threw the Frisbee around in the restaurant parking
lot for an hour or so afterwards.

So, many thanks to everyone who helped make our little pre-game
event for the Ultimate History Book so wonderful. And thanks to Joe
Barbanel for coordinating the Friday brunch. And thanks to Larry
Schindel for his help organizing and just helping without ever asking
for any recognition.
